The Real Deal?
My favorite scene in Act 2 of Romeo and Juliet was scene 3. I liked this scene, because it portrayed a love sick Romeo. It was comical in the fact that he just switched out Rosaline for Juliet saying, "I pray thee, chide not. Her I love now. Doth grace for grace and love for love allow. The other did not so." He says this to the friar, this meaning that Juliet loves hm too, unlike Rosaline. So, he switched out the love of his life for someone new. I find this very comical, because Romeo is always trying to find love wherever he is, and he always rushes into things. He is asking the Friar "That thou consent to marry us today." he just meet Juliet, and he already wishes to marry her, because they are so in love with each other. He always falls in love with propels he cannot fall in love with.
Not only that, but the Friar is shocked saying, "Not in a grave,To lay one in, another out to have."(Shakespeare, 83) this is saying that he told him not to love Rosaline, but he didn't tell him to go find someone else. He didn't expect Romeo to run off and get someone else as quickly as he did. Because then he expresses the fact that sh didn't love him, because she knew Romeo didn't really know what love is. He was just in love with her for her looks, and being a young boy. I find this line comedic, because it shows how Romeo just doesn't yet understand the consept of love, because he always says he has fallen in
love. People can't fall in love and get out of it that quick. This scene ties together the idea of Romeo just wanting to find love in anyway, even if that means dropping one girl for another. I don't think he car what girl it is, as long as he can find someone to love him. This means that could have literally been anyone in this world.
This scene definitely pulls all of that together, therefore making it my favorite scene. Personally, this scene was very comical to me, because Romeo was just being a teenager, struck in love. He thinks that he should jump into marriage, because it is the only way and they are truly and utterally love, even though they don't know each other that well. It is still almost love at first sight.

The Forbade Love
Part 1:
What did you already know about Romeo and Juliet?
My prior knowledge of Romeo and Juliet was fairly limited. I have never read the play about it and I know the general plot of the play. Juliet was 13 and Romeo was about 16-17. I know that Romeo and Juliet had a forbidden love, because their parents and their ancestors are enemies. Romeo and Juliet were unable to see each other and they had to sneak around to see each other. The two groups were broken between the Capulets and the Montagues. They forbade this relationship, so Romeo and Juliet had no other choose but to kill themselves in the end. Romeo committed suicide by drinking poison. Juliet came to see him, which he was at the tomb, when she found him dead she tried to kiss him. However, the poison on his lips didn’t kill her so she took Romeos sword and killed herself too.
Part 2:
In the beginning of Act 1 of the play, what were your first impressions of it? What are the characters of Romeo and Juliet like? Describe them and use at least one specific quote from the play for each character?
My first of impression of Act 1 was interesting and confusing. At first, the language was difficultto understand but the more I read the play, the more the language made since. The play depicted through words, the feud between the two families. Romeo and Juliet were very different in how they behave. For example, Romeo is sad and lonely. The viewer can tell that Romeo thinks very highly of himself and talks in poetry about the love he desires. “A sick man in sadness makes his will, a word ill urged to one that is so ill. In sadness, cousin, I do love a woman.” (Shakespeare, 195) By this the viewer can see that Romeo is a hopeless romantic who will do what he wants. Not only that, but Romeo is a risk taker and he doesn’t care so long as he can see, “the women [he] loves.” Which, is Rosaline, she is a Capulet. (Shakespeare, 104) This is opposite compared to Juliet, who is willing to overlook what she wants in order to help her parents. For example, her parents wanted her to marry Paris. Juliet said “it was an honor that I dream not of.” (Shakespeare, 68) However, Juliet would over look this for her parents and replied to her mother, “I’ll look to like if looking liking move.” (Shakespeare, 99) She is much different then Romeo, in the fact that she is more humble and willing to give things up for her parents. However, they are both loving and they both are very thoughtful and observative. My observation is that later in the story different is what might attract the two to each other, because they haven’t met anyone like each other. This is why they were so in love, this was not explained in Act 1, however it can be inferred based on the details given in the first act of the okay.
Romeo and Juliet
Act 1:
The capulets and the montages get into a huge fight. They get into this fight because one of the men but their finger which is disrespectful. At first, it is just a verbal fight but it gets worse, and the men take their swords out. However, the prince comes and separates their fight by threatening them. Later, the Montegues realize that something is wrong with Romeo. Romeos cousin Benvolio is the only one who Romeo tells what's wrong. They find out he is love sick, because he is deeply in love Juilets cousin Rosaline.
Act 2:
Paris discusses with the Capulets father about how Paris and Juliet should get married. However, Juliet is still too young and they will have to wait a little to get married. Paris agrees and is very happy. Romeo wants to see Rosaline because he thinks he loves her and he doesn't care that she is a Capulet.Later, Romeo finds out about a party the capulets are having and decides to go and shut it down.

A Life Full of Numbers
The “Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night,” follows a story of a boy named Christopher who has autism. The book and the play are awe inspiring and tell an amazing narrative depicting the life of Christopher. Both the play and novel have many similarities and differences including point of views, description, characters and general set.
The point of view in the play and the book are very different. For example, when you are reading the play, it is from Siobhan’s point of view. She is reading Christopher’s story and makes comments about it throughout the play. She is the narrator of the play, expressing time and placement. For example she reads, “It was seven minutes after midnight.” (Stephens, 3) She generally makes these comments throughout the book. This shows she is leading the play. This differs from the book, because in the book it is from the viewer’s point of view. There is no narrator in the book, the book has descriptions in words about what time it is, the location, etc. The book is a continuous story told through words and some dialogue, but the words hold all the description.
Another difference is the book is more descriptive then the play. The play tells the general area that is taking place, like, “Christopher leaves, and he goes back to his house.” This is a stage direction from the writer of the play; however, it lacks detail on what the house would look like. This is contrasting the book, which describes in detail everything around Christopher. For example, the book specifies details including specific locations like, “she lived on the opposite side of the road, two houses to the left.” (Haddon, 10) This allows the reader to picture an idea of the scene.
The play and the book, have all the same characters with the same mindset. The characters match up in the way they act and depict themselves throughout the book and the play. For example, in the play and the book, Siobhan is nice and is a person Christopher confides in. Also, the book and the plot have the same story line of Christopher. They have several main events. 1. Christopher finds the dog. 2. Christopher writes the book about the dog. 3. Christopher finds out about his mother’s affair. 4. The letters. This list can go on and on because both the play and the book depict this storyline. They are told in different ways but they both follow the guidelines. Another similarity is the play and the book both have the same sets, or main places they were at. They had Christopher’s room, his kitchen, Ms. Shear’s house, his mom’s house, the school, the train etc. This goes along with the same plot, because the location follows the plot.
Throughout the play and the book, the readers learn a different perspective on how Christopher sees’ things. However, they viewers of the play and the book get the same general idea of the story line and what was happening. The play and the book both brought their own aspects to the table, and in the end pulled the entire story line together. As you can see, there are many similarities and differences.

Shakespearean Theatre vs. Modern Theater
- Shakespearean theater is open.
- Different dialects
- In Shakespheres plays all characters were played by men
- Shakespeare's plays had little scenery and you can see where they were coming from I.E. Backstage
- In Shakespeare's play, the audiences would be eating all kinds of foods, not small contained things I.E. Candy
- The Shakespeare's plays were not constructed around a stage because they were not always performaned in the same theater
- In Shakespearian time acting was considered a respected job
- Modern theater has moving parts, lighting, electronics, etc.
- In Shakespeare the actors had to project more and use big hand gestures so the people in the back can see and hear because they don't have the technology like modern time
- Shakespearian plays had to be performed in the afternoon because if it was too late they didn't have enough light
- In Shakesperian time, an audience expected a different play to be acted out each day
- In Shakesperian time the best seats were all the way up in the back vs. modern day in which the most expensive seats are close and upfront
- In modern times going to a play is an occasion to get dressed up, but during Shakespearean times, anyone and everyone could go see a play

Performance vs Literature
There are many similarities and differences between performances and literature, and plays and novels. A performance directly correlates with a play as literature directly correlates with a novel. First, start with literature and performance. A performance is "an act of staging or presenting a play, concert or other form of entertainment." Literature is "written works, especially those considered superior or lasting artistic merit." A key difference between a performance and literature is that literature is read while the performance is acted out. This means that literature is read through words rather then a performance which saying the words out loud and adding meaning to them. Literature is also open to a broader interpretation of what is happening in the novel. For example, while reading the novel you can picture your own scene, set, voices, characters, etc. In a performance everything is already sorted out, the background is picked by the directors, actors are chosen, and everything is left up to the director rather then your own imagination. Things stay the same throughout a novel, while you can see the same performance twice and something might change. In my own experience, I saw "Wicked" the play twice with the same actors. When seeing the play for the second time, several things were changed including some of the lines and the songs. As opposed to literature that always remains constant and never changes.
The similarities between a performance in literature is that it is read or seen a certain way depending on the audience. Back to the example about the play, the first time I saw the play was extremely different then the second. The actors were saying the same lines, but the way they read them came out different and their emotions were different. Therefore, causing a different experience for me. This could be directly related to the audiences reaction. The way an audience reacts to a performance determines the emotions an actor might have. The first night I went to the the performance the audience was more upbeat rather then the second where they were mellow. A novel is read a different way depending on the person reading it, they can have different opinions on what the book is trying to explain and talking about. Both the performance and literature depends on the audiences emotions because depending on the mood your in determines how you perceive what you are seeing.
There are similar similarities and differences between a play and a novel. A play is a part that makes up the performance. It is the basic set up of the performance, and includes stage directions, actors. It isn't as complete as a performance. Similarly a novel is a type of literature, and it falls underneath that category. The difference is that a novel tells a story with words and descriptions while a play tells a story through stage directions and emotions through the actors voices. They are both similar to a performance and literature because they are also both affected by the audience.
The novel and play have similar similarities and differences as the performance and literature because they fall under there categories. The play helps create the performance, and dictates it as "instructions." However that's not the same as the novel because a novel is just a type of literature. In the end, a novel and literature use words instead of actions like performance and plays. The plays and performance come to life in front of your eyes instead of the imagination. As you can see, there are many similarities and differences between the two.

The Script
A script is a composition of words that are expressed in dialogue to create a play. The script is essentially the base of the play and the production. Without a script, nothing else can be done, because there would not "instructions" on what to do. It is the words and actions on the paper. The play is acting out these words and actions, and putting life to them. The play has actors acting out these particular words, but it does not give full detail on what the script is supposed to look like. However, the production is still bigger then the play because it encompasses the words, actions and set design, lighting, etc. which follows the imagery the script has planned. However, the production adds more then what just the script says, it adds character, lighting and other information needed to pull the script together. I agree with this quote because as you go from script to play to production more information and pieces are added all making the production a whole. This allows it to come to life and lets the viewer see and hear what is going on and how the script should look like. This relates to this class because we are learning about sets, diolouge and how to bring them all together. In this class, we will be doing productions, so knowing this information we will know we have to start at the base, the script.

All About Me
Hi, my name is Charlie Swan and I am 16 years old. I come from a small town in Connecticut called Wolcott. My family is made up of my mom, my dad and my six older sisters. I also have a two-year-old niece, who currently lives with us. Being the youngest of the family not including my niece definitely has its perks. I am generally spoiled among the other kids and have the most clothes due to the fact, everything gets handed down to me.
Not only do I have my family to rely on, I also have my boyfriend. We have been together for one year now. Although, at times it gets very rough because he lives very far away. Often during the summer, we don't get to see each other for three months. He lives in Venezuela but is always here to support me through whatever I need. He is a grade above me. Therefore, he will graduate before me, this will be a big challenge for us, but in the end we always find our way through. I consider him my best friend and confide in him for everything I may need.
My hobbies include gymnastics, dance, acting and modeling. I have been doing gymnastics since I was very young. It requires a lot of endurance and stretching. Although it does require endurance, it is very relaxing to me. It helps me get out of my head and into a different place. I find gymnastics as a way of an escape and it is something that I cannot live without. My favorite hobby is acting and modeling. I have been in the business since I was about nine years old. I have been in several commercials, modeled for the gap, episodes in Nickelodeon and filmed a movie. The most amazing experience of being in the acting world is being able to meet so many new people and seeing what goes on behind the scenes. Although it is fun, it takes a lot of persistence, memorization and most importantly hard work. Juggling acting in school at time becomes difficult. However, I managed to do it with the help of my family and a lot of dedication. My teachers and coaches work with me and provide a lot of support in order for me to reach my goals.
School is very important to me and is a very big priority. This year I am taking full IB. I know will be very difficult but it will help me achieve my goal of getting into a great college. I'm a very dedicated student and I'm always up for this challenge.
My family , my friends, acting, and school all shape me into the person I am today. Without all this, I don't know where I would be. I have gained so many experiences through my family, my friends and acting. These experiences are unforgettable. I'm so glad that I was able to accomplish all of this with so much support from my friends and family. Without them, I would not be able to accomplish any of my goals.
