I think that our
scene work has been going well, but it needs some improvement. I have only
practiced the scene twice, so it is till a little rough. Also, the second time
I practiced, one of the actors was missing, so it was hard to get the timing
right. I think for myself, I have to work on pacing myself and slowing down. I
tend to talk fast, and so therefore I have to slow myself down. I have to
physically keep thinking to myself, slow down and take your time. When I do
this, it eventually starts to come naturally.
I think this will get better when I fully memorize the script.
As for my group as
a whole, I think we all need to work on getting our scripts down a little
better, because it will make it easier to follow stage directions. The timing is
a little off, because everyone had their noses in the script, so it was hard to
hit the beats on time. It will look more natural once we can get the movements
down and figure out where to move when. I may only feel this way, because we
haven’t got to practice on the black box’s stage more then once. However, this
was my first reaction when practicing the script.
One thing that
stands out the most to me is that my group is good at embodying our characters.
Each of us takes on the responsibility of putting ourselves in the shoes of the
god we are assigned. We take on their personalities
and lifestyle and show it through is actions and our dialogue. My entire group
is able to transforming into their god. I think this is a really good feature
of our group, because it helps get the message across. Our script clearly
defines the interpretation of the book that we took. Once the props our put in,
the audience will be able to tell it is an office. Also, we make clear
distinctions in out words, on what the script is supposed to be. For example,
they all receive mail to their departments, and Erzulie states “no
interdepartmental interferences.” There are little hints like this and the
overall script takes on the transformation we wanted
I think the
other groups did well, from the little I saw today. They seem to know when to
move and things like that. However, they still use their script to, which may
cause problems as well. However, I found their scripts comical and upbeat, they
in captured their characters very well.
Overall, I think my
group has the basis of what we need down. I need to work on things such as
slowing down and when to move individually, and the group needs to work on some
things as a whole. However, it is coming along strong, and we are able to stay
in character the entire time, and work off of each other. Once we have the
scene memorized I think everything will come together.
